MASLD stands for Metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease. It’s the new name for what used to be called NAFLD. MASLD happens when too much fat builds up in the liver. It’s often connected to things like insulin resistance, high blood pressure, weight, hormones, and how your body processes food and stress. MASLD doesn’t always cause symptoms in the beginning, but over time it can lead to serious liver damage.
